[ Dorian wanted to corrupt Will, to win the other man over to his side as much as possible. Ostensibly, it had been just to shape him into a project, to show Chilton what he could do, but now? Now it was fun. It was fun, it was a challenge, it was Dorian doing something that he hadn't done in a long time: molding someone to his image to either use them or drop them. He had been working on getting Will to trust him, now it was time to see if that trust would pay off.

Said method to see if the trust would pay off was to stick a finger in an envelope and put it in the bait shop's mailbox to see how Will would react. You know, like normal people do.

Will was FBI, he probably had seen worse. But this was still just the right level of unsettling that Dorian wanted to accomplish. The finger was his own, prints burned off with a mixture of searing and chemicals because spoilers, Dorian actually doesn't know the best way to remove fingerprints. Still, regrowing limbs had it's perks. Chopping off the finger stung like a bitch but Dorian had to keep reminding himself he regrew a heart before, this was nothing. (Also, his apartment now suspiciously smells WAY TOO MUCH LIKE VANILLA in order to cover up the scent of charred finger). He made sure to swing by the bait shop when he knew Will or Abigail weren't working, quickly sliding the envelope in the mailbox. Will probably had some sort of CCTV, so Dorian made the trip wearing thrift store chic, which promptly got tossed in the nearest dumpster once this was done. Like hell he'd willingly wear a trucker hat.

The envelope was a plain white envelope with "To Will Graham" written on the front in careful cursive, obviously done by someone who took pride in their penmanship/probably had to learn proper penmanship at some point. The finger was his pinky finger. Now to go back to his apartment, sit back, stalk Will on the network for the next week or so, and make sure he got all the blood out of the sink. ]

[Will's gotten mail at the bait shop before, so he doesn't have any nagging suspicions something is wrong when he gets a call from the day's worker about having a package he needs to pick up. Fortunately, Will's rather busy that day and tells the young man to leave it in the usual spot, Will will come in after hours and see to it himself. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Will Graham drops by the shop after dinner, believing he's going to find nothing unusual. He turns on the light in the back room and meanders to the cupboard he expects to find it in. The penmanship catches his eye, has him carefully weighing the package in his hands before he lifts it to listen, as if there is something more sinister inside. Well, no ticking. What's the worst that could happen?

He uses a plastic knife to cut it open over the table employees use to take their breaks.

...the table that he watches become sullied and its own crime scene when, in what feels like slow motion, a finger falls out of the package and rolls to the very edge of the table.

Holy shit. At least, he thinks a moment later, it hadn't come out of his stomach.

He doesn't debate calling the police; Will puts on a pair of gloves used for dealing with live bait and does his own mild investigation. He won't be getting any prints off of these, that's for damn sure. After a few minutes, Will places the finger in a small Ziploc baggie, the package itself in a larger one, and marks the time and date. Then he looks at what security footage there is to be found, frowning as he replays the only part that could have been his mysterious finger wagger over and over. It's black and white and shoddy and of course there's no audio, but he's unsettled by the fact he has no idea who's under that trucker hat.

Walter White? Is this Jesse Pinkman's finger? Would he hurt him in such a way? Could be White, could be some nobody's finger (some likely dead nobody), could be a sign.

Will takes off his gloves and burns them in the sink. He sets his evidence on the counter while he painstakingly cleans the table so not even the tiniest trace of blood would show. Then he rolls up his evidence in a trash bag, puts it in another trash bag, seals it all with a strip of duct tape, writes Will's - picking up Saturday on the tape, and gently places it at the back of the shop freezer. Then he shuts the shop down for the night. He checks in on the live bait, gives the place the once over to make sure it's properly tended to, turns out the light, locks the door, and refines the plan of what to do about such morbid and mysteriously sent gifts.

He may bring it to official attention...if he can't find any of the answers on his own. Because this feels personal in ways that aren't just it being sent to him with his name. This feels like a sign and a challenge wrapped in one neat, disturbing package. This feels like a two person show, no desire of a larger audience carrying badges and guns and authority.

He'll give himself the weekend to use his own means, to secure a lab for a few hours if he needs it. He'll give himself the weekend and take it to a higher power after if it feels right. For now, Will's just leaving human remains in his shop freezer and going home.

After he picks up some ice cream, their house does go through it so quickly these days.]

[ Of course Dorian's going to continue in his campaign to simultaneously try and win Will over to his side as well as try and get him in a fragile enough state of mind that he can convince Will to do something terrible if needs must. Really though, based on the fact that Yuri Petrov is back (urrrrrgh) and Toby now has some sort of empathetic bond bullshit with the werewolf he slept with/got killed by (urrrrrrgh), it's only proper planning to have a paranoid, mentally unstable FBI agent ace in the hole. He doesn't know what his coupe de grace will be with Will Graham, but it's going to be something that benefits him. Maybe he'll go after Drew? Maybe he'll go after Yuri...now wouldn't that be lovely, the two of them getting each other out of the way like that. Two men that Dorian's still having problems sorting out his feelings towards (because God forbid, he's actually starting to like Will Graham a bit) destroying each other and leaving him not to decide on anything at all.

Dorian's not at all wavering in the belief that he could twist Will around his fingers like this. He got Alan Campbell to dispose of a body back home, after all, he could do this. Be his paranoid attack dog, Will.

So hey, the morning of November 5th, when Toby's asleep in his room, Dorian gets everything together, shoves everything in a messenger bag, hops on his vespa (as pathetic as this sounds, it's less conspicuous than his bright red car), and drives out of the city limits, trying to find someplace private. A small little copse of trees off the side of the road serves his purpose as Dorian pulls off, parks the vespa behind some trees but still in sight and wanders further in. It's then that he takes off his left shoe, pulls out a butcher knife from his bag and slices off the toe closest to his baby toe. Ohhhhh that hurts. That hurts like a bitch. But it's easier to drive a vespa sans one toe than sans one finger. He'll still smell a little bit like blood when he gets back to the apartment in the evening, when Toby wakes up, but the toe should have grown back by then. He can come up with an excuse in five hours or so. He doesn't bother searing off the toe-prints because it's not like that's a thing, right? Besides, he has no idea of toe-prints work the same as fingerprints and honestly doubts Will's going to go round up everybody and check their toe prints (mostly because, to the best of his knowledge, Will hasn't said anything to anyone about his first gift yet. Rude.) Both the knife and the toe are rinsed off with a bottle of water, dried off with a dishrag that Dorian leaves in the middle of the woods (nice job, litterbug), and put back in the messenger bag, as Dorian put his shoes back on. He's so thankful he wore large combat boots today—not normally his style, but they provide plenty of room in the front for a lopped off toe to grow back.

The toe's packaged again in a plain white envelope, with 'To Will Graham' in the same handwriting on the front. This time though, a note's included with the package. It's handwritten, in flawless script, something that instantly pegs 'upper class education' or at least 'somebody who gives a damn about penmanship.' ]

[ Look, he's certainly not going to sign it 'Prince Charming', okay? He can't help but laugh a little bit at the idea of Dorian Gray: guardian angel because he is anything but.

The letter also served as oblique warning about Lunatic. He didn't know whether Will knew about Yuri's reappearance or not but hey, don't let it be said that Dorian didn't have a heart. An oblique warning and an explanation for why body parts might not come at such a high frequency. Dorian was perfectly fine using Yuri as a scapegoat (someone who lopped off fingers and toes off other people would be considered a sinner, right? Right.) because like hell he's going to tell Will the actual reason why the body part express might be drying up a bit (it's really fucking hard to chop off fingers & toes and have them regrow on a regular basis when you live with a vampire who's hyper-attuned to blood.).

Anyway, second verse, same as the first. Dorian parks his vespa a few blocks away from Hook, Line and Tinker and, after a quick change into something thrift store chic (an orange beanie and a flannel shirt (ugh, he was actually wearing flannel)) walks to the bait shop, and casually puts the envelope in Hook, Line and Tinker's mailbox before heading out and waiting. Hopefully this time he'll have better results, come on Will, go be a detective and poke around about your body part friend where Dorian can actually see it. ]
