This is why I suggested we have a word about how relationships function, Dr. Crane. For all your intelligence and learning, you've got no clue how they work.
I wonder if your obsession with fear stems from it being the only thing you do understand. Not unlike an addict, the alkies and junkies passed out in the gutter. I wouldn't support their vices. I'm not going to support yours.
[come back when you wanna murder and eat people tho]

Now, that's a funny thing to read from a guy like you, Mr. Graham. Would you like to speak of your record in relationships?
You don't know anything.
[Hannibal, Hannibal, Hannibal.
He is not a child having a temper tantrum, shut up.]

You could, but you're not qualified to speak on my record in relationships. You don't know enough about them. "Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; when he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive." You wouldn't want to prove yourself a fool, would you?
[Hannibal and Will don't have a real relationship, and there are only two others from his world running about. Crane's opened this with his relationship regarding Sasha. Will's a married man, has a house full of people he cares for in varying degrees. One bad egg doesn't mean he can't know or understand, and Will's not the one who'll go on in the future to continually hitch himself to Hannibal's side, his name. Fuck that noise. But if Crane wants to go for the whole low-hanging fruit of "you don't know anything" then Will has no problems returning it. How could Crane know? He's not from Baltimore, the entirety of it isn't around. He's tossing off all the other relationships Will has in favor for a non-relationship; rather than rile him up to keep going, the most appropriate method seems to be shutting it down.]

No.
But I'll make a fool out of you. I don't know enough about your relationships? You don't know enough about mine. Let me tell you this; my books were always my friends, above all else. I thrive on solitude. The darkness of a room is like sunlight to me. Being left alone is all I want.
Ignominy is nothing to me. If I care nothing for the opinions of other people, how can I fear being made a fool?
[Icon relevant. Notice the arrogance. The indomitability. The contempt.]

You've also made it apparent you do care. You want people to know your name, your real name. You want people to know what you're capable of. You want them to fear you. Watch in awe, perhaps.
If you honestly did not care about the opinions others had of you, you wouldn't have attacked so many in one go. You wouldn't have made a name for yourself. There is power, for you, in their opinions. You don't just crave fear, Dr. Crane. You crave recognition. You can argue you don't as all you want, but your actions prove otherwise. Same as right now. You want to be left alone but here you are. Which is it? Can't have it both ways.
You owe me awe, will! :|
So what he wanted wasn't respect born from love; it was respect born from fear. Before he had developed fear as his weapon, he hadn't been shown respect. Not for his intellect; frankly, he was a genius. But now people were frightened of who he was and what he could do.
And he is not a religious man. Not at all. But all of this is simplistic in its understanding, and he doesn't regard himself as simple. Religion and fear are parts of his background, and he's not scared of himself or anyone else anymore.
How can he fear himself when Jonathan Crane as he used to be ceased to exist?]Well, you're an insightful little man, aren't you? I'll have to put you right on your choice of words, mind. I would hardly be a good teacher if I didn't highlight your mistakes, would I?
You claim I don't only crave fear. You claim I crave recognition. You don't mention that's a word many take to mean reverence and respect.
Phobos.
Are you familiar with this word's etymology, Mr. Graham? Greek in origin, it lies at the root of English words such as phobia. Fear, dread and terror. It also means reverence and respect. He will judge each person according to their works, and each will receive what he or she deserves. Fear and respect are the exact same thing. I am doing nothing but divine work by reminding everyone of that.
[Divine work. His work. He's not a religious man. But if these people ignore him and do not give him the respect and reverence he deserves, well, they've seen what happens.]
He owes him a pop in the mouth.
Sasha isn't afraid of Will. Nor is April. He isn't afraid of them, but damn right he respects them. The two don't go hand in hand regardless of word origins, same as sinister and left. But then he stares at his half-written reply for a few moments and comes to a better conclusion. Crane barks and barks (howls, really) about not caring and how all he wants is to be alone. He refuses to accept boundaries, which is nothing new to Will. Crane, however, is not Hannibal. Will has no duty, no obligation to indulge him. So he sends nothing. He ignores him. Indulges his desire to be left alone.
He doesn't give a shit if Crane takes this to mean he's won, that his divinity has triumphed. In the same way Will would ignore a poorly-behaved dog barking for attention in order to condition him to accept that behavior won't be rewarded and he should keep at it, Will ignores Crane. A good teacher does not have to highlight everything in a verbal manner to get a point or lesson across, after all.]
