One, I didn't murder him. He just kind of died.

I was cleaning and feeding him perfectly well! I just changed the water because it looked a little shitty (literally shitty) and then he died on me!

What did you put him in when you changed the water?

Other water. I just put him in a tupperware, it was only for a minute or so anyway.

Could've been the change in temperature. He wasn't familiar with it and it killed him. Or he might have been close to death anyway and that was the final nail in the coffin. He might have been sick.

So if he was sick, how would I have treated him? You can't take a goldfish to the vet.

Sure you can. Depends on what the sickness is. Sometimes it's as easy as putting drops of a medication in the tank until the fish has recovered.

Huh! Well, I totally did not know that.

One of the most popular sicknesses among goldfish that I know of is white spot disease, commonly called ich (said like "ick" and it is an icky parasite). If you're not familiar with them, you can take pictures or the tank itself to a vet. Or just call, most likely. There's other ails goldfish can come down with but that's a common one.
If I were you, if you wanted to try again, I'd do a very thorough cleaning of the tank first. Use hot water, maybe salt, sterilize it before you give it a new inhabitant.

I honestly can't remember if he had ich or not because he went belly up, I nudged him for a bit, waited a few hours, no dice.
As for the latter part, no idea if I want to try again or not.

There is no difference between bait shop/fishing and willingly worn in public overalls.
