[Although Josuke prides himself on being something of an opportunist, he feels a little awkward now about coming to someone he doesn't know so well to ask a favor. Doesn't matter what it is, though in this case it's certainly not life or death and that makes it easier, it's still difficult...like it's asking too much, no matter how small.

But Will's a nice guy, Josuke remembers that. Makes talking to him a lot less unnerving. So that's what Josuke does. He talks.]

Well, I've given it a lot of thought recently, and I think I wanna go into law enforcement. Like, as a career. But I've only spent a year and a bit in this country, and things are a bit different here than they are in Japan. [Shit, he's rambling. Get to the point, Josuke.] Ah...what I'm trying to ask is, do you think you could maybe show me the ropes a bit? That is, help me get familiar with all the laws and stuff and maybe with some college course prep?

There is silence for a few seconds, and when Will asks the question, it's clearly with a sense that Josuke's answer is Extremely Important in this decision making process.]

Why do you want to go into law enforcement?

My grandpa was a policeman for thirty-five years. Never got a promotion or anything special like that, he was just satisfied knowing he was doing his part to keep our hometown safe. [Bless that crazy old man.] When he was murdered in our living room, I felt like protecting the town had become my duty. So I did what I could, you know? I had to. Morioh was my home.

But now I got another home. Heropa's really important to me...and there's a lot of people here that are real important to me, too. I wanna do everything I can to keep 'em safe.

[...okay, well. Touche. Josuke has seen some shit. That counts for something. Having a drive counts until that drive is beaten to death, but Will knows his case is Special because he is Special.]

All right. [Quiet, grave agreement.] I don't work with the law here any more, but I went through testing and worked my way back into it last year. Still have a lot of those textbooks in my office. Time to dust 'em off.

[Josuke hadn't expected a no, but he's used to people giving him a hard time. This was...surprisingly easy once he'd managed to finally spit out the necessary words.]

[Josuke and Haise are besties. Or at least, Josuke was besties with Ken, but since the two can't technically exist completely apart from each other, Josuke considers Haise just as much of a best friend. Which means he is beyond 'cool' with the cannibal crowd.]
