[ by being registered Kaneki has access to bodies donated to science, he doesn't kill people to eat, the government keeps a log on how much Kaneki eats and everyone is happy. Right ]

I only take one body a month from there. But I eat more than that. [ because he is a goddamn glutton. Plus, Hinami is a ghoul and Kaneki gets food for her, too ]

[His eyebrows knit together a bit as he listens, giving Ken all the time he needs to explain himself while trying to make it very very clear he's also giving him his full attention. Helps there aren't any animals curled up in his lap or on his shoulder to distract him.

... I steal. From morgues. [ when Touka was here, it was so easy because two of them stealing bodies is a lot easy to do. When it's just him, stealing bodies for two ghouls (specially one of them eats for two - himself), it starts to be hard ]

I used to go to hospitals but I felt bad. [ because the families would want to see the bodies and they were gone, to be eaten by some hungry cannibal. ] Then I went to police morgues and stole bodies of criminals and unknowns. At first they thought it was other criminals stealing the bodies. [ that was good ]

But they started to see a pattern. Hospitals too. Security got tighter.

[Life is hard for a cannibal. Especially one who doesn't hunt the population down. Not that he'd suggest Ken revert to hunting, but he can't help thinking how Hannibal would never have this problem. Just taking came so easily to him.]

Now you don't have anywhere to go but the labs and...you don't want to go there too often. You need to find some place else?

Yes. It's not just for me, though. If the labs are my only option, I'll go to the labs.

But there is also the issue with Hinami-chan. I'm the one getting her food and if I'm Ported out, she needs to find a way to eat. I don't want her to register, Will. I don't trust the government and no ghoul should be under a government's or a laboratory's eye. [ he is paranoid and truly believes that the government keeps an eye on what Kaneki eats, and the labs take the chance to study Kaneki whenever he drops by. He was turned into a ghoul by a mad scientist - it's easy to guess why he distrusts laboratories and scientists so much ]

I need a way, that doesn't involving killing someone. A way for her, too. And I don't know what.

[ it's a bit unfair to ask Will to help him about this. But Will was part of the police force, so maybe he will remember something that the Police doesn't usually care for - but with dead bodies, they always do, don't they? But Will is still one of the smartest people Kaneki knows, so he feels that if there is a person who can help him, Will is that person. ]

[Ken effectively rules out Registration as an answer. Not that Will could blame him; everyone has their own thoughts on the government, it's not his place to change minds. Officially he has no business with them outside of his own status, and he likes it that way. But without changing status, without killing, and being unable to get bodies...what's left, graverobbing? How desperate. How easily messed up, and then what would the papers say about imPorts? Damn them all, put that burden on Ken.

Your usual rivers are all dried up. [It's...just a statement. But it's delivered so grimly and almost abruptly it sounds rather like Will didn't mean to say it. Thinking out loud.] Have you ever spoken to an imPort by the name of Jesse Pinkman?

[Usually, Will isn't the biggest fan of dropping names. But this is in private, this isn't smeared across the Network for all to see. This is different. And while it's also exceedingly bleak and grisly, Jesse seemed accustomed to that. So accustomed to it, getting to use something seen as similar for the good of others wasn't immediately viewed as the same sort of terrifying. Worst came to worst, it didn't work out, and Jesse didn't appreciate it. Best come to best? That was worth the risk.]

[ kaneki did resort to grave-robbing before. But it's messy and he'd be more inclined for the labs than that - and it's not like Hinami would be able to do it, too. Far too morbid for a girl like her - the fact that she has to eat what she does, is already too morbid for her, in a way.

[ kaneki goes silent for a moment. Confidential is good, but should he ask?

He may be able to. You'd have to ask him. Tell him I sent you.

[It's all very mysterious, Ken, just embrace the mystery. Except Will doesn't want to leave it too vague, doesn't want to seem like he's handing this off, so he adds:]

In the meantime, I'll look into anything I can do about this. If there's something I'm capable of pulling off, I'll find it.

[ mystery is terrible, kaneki hates it. But he trusts Will and if Will trusts this Jesse Pinkman person... then Kaneki will trust the man too.

Kaneki nods ] Alright. I'll do as you say.

Thank you, Will. [ he has to add: ] I'm sorry. [ for asking for something like this ]

[Sometimes people say that just to be polite. This isn't one of those times. His voice is confident, careful, each word coming out very, very clearly.]

I'm glad you came to me with this. You don't have to go through it all alone.
