Is there something I'm doing with Will you think is off? Do you have questions about anything you'd like me to answer? Do you have any constructive criticism for me? This is the place to do it! Anon is enabled, ip logging is off.
I just wanted to say that I've been reading back through threads, and I adore your Wil. You're very good at balancing creepy and silly, and you've made me laugh more than once. Please keep it up!
Hi, I thought I'd better do this here. I really like having a Will in game, because he's my favorite character from the series. I just wanted to address a small concern here. Sometimes I feel like he's OOC, when he does or says silly stuff, or when he worries too much about being a cannibal. Yes, Hannibal plays with his mind about that with the ear thing, but Will know something off about that... Idk...
He's also very hard to thread with. Maybe you prefer tagging with people who go at your pace. Personally, I'm not that good boomeranging, so when I get to his post, he usually has lots of tags already. I know you can't always tag with everyone, and you can't help it if he's popular, I just feel a bit sad about this. :(
Sorry if I sound rude or bitchy or anything. It's not my intention, really.
I'll need some clarification on what you mean about him doing or saying silly stuff, exactly. The canon itself is not at all afraid of things being silly. For example, in the second episode of season 2, he literally quotes Sesame Street while looking a pile of bodies stitched together. I have never seen Hannibal the show, the movies, and some bits of the books as overly serious. Is the subject matter serious? Yes, of course it is. But it's also full of cannibal puns/wordplay, and Hannibal in the books/movies says things like, "okie dokie" which really does not strike me as it being too serious when it's not called for. Whenever I do tags that involve more serious subject matter, I do switch the tone up. What do you mean by doing silly stuff, though? His post about snagging up dogs? The thing with him somewhat drunkenly making flower crowns in the last event? Is there anything in particular that comes to mind for you?
As for worrying about being a cannibal, that is a very real fear that has been shown in season 2. The Copycat took out Cassie Boyle's lungs while she was still breathing and mounted her on a stag head. Garret Jacob Hobbs, they learned after he did not "honor" his victim and instead put her back, was eating his victims, too, and only put her back because she had cancer, and eating someone with that in their body runs the risk of transferring sickness (I'm not sure if it's cancer, exactly, but I read somewhere it was a possibility). The issue against him that was risen was that he lost time and got into Garret Jacob Hobbs' mind so much he began to recreate his crimes. Knowing Hobbs was a cannibal, knowing those are crimes he will be accused of when he returns, I believe a natural aversion to meat and worry of it is really quite sensible. Of course he knows he didn't do it, but with Lecter in his head and him unable to really get him out of it, Lecter who reminded him of getting too close to Hobbs (seeing him in places where he could not have been and feeling that he and Hobbs were doing the same things at the same time, like eating or showering or sleeping), that's a constant thought. He threw up an ear when the last thing he remembers of Abigail Hobbs is hallucinating himself impaling her, when he said terrible things to her, and then she ran off and he lost time until much later and had no idea what happened to her. The evidence against him is enormous, and with Garret Jacob Hobbs being a cannibal and Will being accused of being too far into his head (and he was at times), that's what he will be accused of. Does he know he didn't do it? Yes. But the fear is real and with Lecter in his head, it's more of a reminder of what has been done to him and that he will go back home (if he does) and the first thought people will have about him other than being a murderer who hid it well, perhaps, is that he went a step further and ate some of his victims. Thus, cannibalism is on his mind quite frequently because that is what he will have to deal with back home, if he ever goes back. That is not something that would ever be easy to deal with. That's very sickening, very wrong, and not something that I can imagine would just be put aside easily. He's been in Asgard only two months. I don't think that's honestly enough time to cope, and with Abigail here and Alana from a canon point where she knows of Will's accusations, I can't imagine it will get any better. Alana knows what he'll be accused of, that being cannibalism, and now it's a more constant reminder.
Of course you follow the show yourself, and this isn't meant as me saying you don't.
I did not mean to make you feel ignored by the way I've been tagging. Not at all. I believe I take on too much sometimes, and getting back to the Friendly Fire event is a priority. It's not that I prefer tagging people at my own pace, no. I am fine with backtagging unless it gets to a point where the thread could reasonably end or my tags are taking too long and thus become unfair to the other person waiting. I never mean to make anyone sad, I promise. That was not my intention at all, and I need to lighten what I tag into when I have so many other threads. Apologies for that!
You don't sound rude or bitchy, no. I just have some issues with what you're saying without a link or two to show me what you mean with regards to the silliness. People will have multiple interpretations of the same thing. I can't fully explain mine without something to show what you mean, exactly. That's all. I'd love to answer these questions when I have a better grasp on what it you're referring to, but the doing/saying silly stuff is not something I can answer without context.
Ok, I'll try to be clearer about this... Though now I just feel really bad about everything... Feel free to just discard what I say, really...
I don't mean Will has to be super serious all the time. I realize he's not an easy character to play because he's quite intelligent and then there's his empathy gift (which I'm not sure if it should work the same in Asgard?). And yes, Will sort of makes jokes and says silly stuff in the series, and yes, he loves dogs, but sometimes it seems a bit too overboard, like he's all like this: XD but he doesn't seem to be very happy in the series. And well, yeah, I meant the dog snagging and flower crowns... I mean, it's hilarious, but idk...
About the cannibal thing, he does worry about it, especially around roughly the first half of the episode, but by the end, he's sure he was framed. And well, now during season two, he remembered he didn't willingly eat the ear, it was shoved into his stomach (thanks, Hannibal), and he pleaded innocent. But then again, I guess maybe that's just my interpretation of Will, and of course, we all do it a bit differently, even if it's the same character. We don't necessarily need to agree with each other?
Yeah, I realize what it's like to take on too much. Happening to me too, and unfortunately my solution will probably be to drop some characters... I'll try to reach out to your Will again... maybe he can play with Sansa's dog.... If you still want to play with me...
I'm sorry... I somehow caused a lot of drama, which is why I never do HMD. For some reason, I usually unleash drama when I do stuff like this... First time I do in RP, but has happened to me IRL... Really, if you want, just ignore this or consider anything you might think useful. Feel free to discuss views of the show with me. I meant no harm by this, really. /hugs
Will's empathy gift is used when he accesses the minds of killers to see how and why it happened and so forth. He has not had an opportunity to use that here in Asgard, but if it cropped up and there was a need for it, then I would play it out. I don't know if you mean you've seen me doing something with it because I can't recall using it or mentioning it. He's talked about his job but not gone very in depth in the way he does it, but he's mentioned a bit more to some people but never in the way of "I have pure empathy."
I cannot really recall a time where Will might be really thought of as "XD" because he's not a happy guy, no, and there's very few things in Asgard that make him happy. He's happy he's not home, but he also hates that he's not home. He's talked to people and funny things have been said, and he's not used to it because he has a very limited pool of people back home, and they know how to treat/handle him. Asgard isn't strange just because of magic, it's strange because no one really knows him and asks him things he is never really asked back home and he knows nothing bad is really meant by it but it still raises his hackles. Going back through some threads, I can see the way I write things being silly but I can't see much with Will actually being overly happy about anything in Asgard so far.
Dog snagging? Yeah, I wanted a first post that would be easy to reply to by anyone in the game because why does this guy have so many dogs. Will has seven dogs in canon. Two of the dogs in that post were random, one was Jade's, and the other was Grey Wind. I had talked to both players beforehand and they thought it was a funny idea, and that was part of the reason I went with it. Will is not an open guy. He's not about to start asking the network deep introspective questions or just go announcing his presence. I needed a post, so I went with dogs because there were people in game who had pet dogs (or similar, direwolf taken into account) and Will does take dogs home. If you notice, Winston actually had a collar and a leash. I don't know if he stole him so much, but it doesn't exactly show him calling up people missing a dog if there is a number on the collar.
The flower crowns? That was part of the event. I didn't just pull that out at random. They were worked into the event itself, which I was really delighted by. It gives him something to easily react to by others (is that the guy with the dogs making those things) and his hobby back home is making fishing lures, which includes doing close, precise work with his hands and is rather relaxing. It's something familiar. He didn't just start doing them because it's a fandom thing and yes, that was part of it, but there's things he does in canon that lend to the idea that yeah, he'd probably be somewhat good at making them once he spent enough time with it. If you follow those threads, there's not much XD to them, either. It's a silly thing, yes, but the silliness of it didn't impact him and turn him into a super happy guy who just loves flower crowns. If you go back to said flower crown post, you can see that some of those threads aren't very happy at all, such as the one where he's having to deal with seeing Barty again. I posted flower crowns. Yes. But the threads resulting aren't happy happy joy joy. At least one is small talk. He's not sociable back home, but he's in a place where it's going to have to happen at one point or another. I cannot make AC if he talks to only a few people and never goes out or partakes in events. I'm not going to write up a starter of him standing around being grumpy and drinking beer because that has no hook and anyone who wants CR really has no reason to tag him in that. If anyone had wanted to thread with him, having no hook at all would make it difficult. Flower crowns were in the event, I explained how it tied into back home, and the fact that he was doing something that could be seen as silly didn't change him as a character at all. It was a hook that people could take and anyone who wanted to thread with him and hadn't found a reason to now had something their character could react to.
At the same time as all of this, Will has been having some rather serious threads with multiple people. I do not link everything I thread on plurk. I don't have a thread tracking post. Those threads are not all I am doing in game. He's become involved in the event where the school is burned down that will result in rough times for him that may (most likely will) strain some CR he has going right now. It's going to throw him off even further. I'm not out to make him a one-note dog snatcher and nothing else.
This is during season two. Will in Asgard is not from season two. He's from the end of the first one. He has not yet had the time for that first half of the episode to worry about the cannibalism because that's past his canon point. He does not know about Hannibal shoving the ear down his throat because that's before his canon point. I have been toying with an idea I need to ask the mods about as a means to work with getting some memories back through someone with magic that might help it, but as of now, he cannot know that. Having him suddenly know it without any outside influence cannot and will not happen. I am not going to canon update him until the end of the season or after, so without anything in Asgard happening that would lead to him reasonably getting memories back, there's nothing I can do to incorporate that part of season 2. It's off the table, no pun intended.
Not everyone interprets the same character the same way. That is one great joy I have found in roleplay. There are characters in game now that I never thought much about before or not in certain lights, but through watching people play them and how they play them, I've thought about them more and differently, be it thinking of them more negatively or positively, and I really enjoy that.
I don't think you meant any harm, and there's nothing to apologize for. You don't sound rude or bitchy, as you said before. I've explained as best I can with what you've given me. If something I've said is confusing, I will do my best to clarify it further.
So I rarely do this since HMDs are generally more a con crit thing in my book, but since you have no plurk for me to gush at you on I wanted to come here. I just want to say I love your Will and the level of introspection you give with him, even in just text spamming comments. I have been having an amazing time throwing April at him and hope he stays around in MoM.
Oh goodness, this is wonderful to hear (read, whatever)! I felt really bad for how much I fell through lately and was just hoping that the IC contact shark shirt gift box bomb would be okay and I'm so glad it was! I'd been dying for more stuff with April, it's really wonderful to hear you're having as good a time with it as I am!
He'll stay if he doesn't get eaten, you know how it is with the Baltimore crowd.
Ugh I have always been so nervous to tag your Will. He's just so excellent, and your journals are so perfect and -- I guess I am just easily intimidated. How embarrassing.
I am worried everyone and their mother has already been around to play Hannibal better than me. And I am just like, 'Hello!' (Waves shyly at audience from stage four hours after the play ended).
Oh gosh, you flatterer. Please don't be intimidated, if the blingee on his profile and the spam in this HMD doesn't give away the game, I'm sort of ("sort of") a goofball so no need to be nervous!!!!
I got into it a little late, it felt like, too, back after season one. But there's no time limit on RP so WAVES BACK EAGERLY I'm glad you've taken an interest in MoM and should say hi to you on plurk, y/n?
[makes a series of increasingly disbelieving noises complete with wild arm gestures]
Oh no, I'm @logicdemolition on plurk, I just dropped in with an emote and bonsoir on your Hannibal TDM link plurk! I do know wolftrap though, what a good she is.
while you may be leaving our merry little game soon, please know that you will be missed for both your sparkling personality and delightful wit you bring to your tags and the work you do behind the scenes! will has had a magnificent journey with both dives into dramatics and into the absurd and, most usually, a combination thereof. you've been a blast to play with and to watch around! may taking your leave from the game make your life easier, and do remember that you'll be remembered with great fondness by everyone in the game not #blessed with your presence on plurk.
